‘Casa da Pombinha’ takes its inspiration from the estates and farms in the Douro Valley of Portugal. This region is home to a beautiful blending of vineyards, olive groves, fruit trees and gardens that reach down to greet the wandering waters of the Douro River. It is one of my favourite places to explore and giving my portfolio and gallery this name felt like a very satisfying way of fulfilling a wish of having an estate of my own. As for the name, ‘Pombinha’, it is a Portuguese word I love and a diminutive term of endearment or affection meaning ‘little dove’.
My name is Louise Boultbee and welcome to my creative estate…dedicated to a creative state of being. The works I feature in Pombinha’s galleries are the fruits…the gifts… of the landscape of gardens, groves and terraces of my life. I am fascinated by the creative process and love that my work allows me to explore this field in a variety of ways. As an artist’s model, I am gifted with a unique and illuminating window in on the world of creativity. Working with a host of colleges, universities and artists’ groups, I am always learning so much that is continually informing my own artistic sensibilities.
Cultivating the skill of listening with all my senses and an open heart stands out as the key ingredient in my artistic development. In this way, an environment or experience is free to reveal itself to me. I compare it to a cellar where, in the quiet of its walls, that mysterious transformation of fruit juice into the nectar of wine takes place. Similarly, within the cellar of my stillness and spaciousness creative ideas mature, in their own time, into a fullness of expression. And when I really surrender to the creative process, with a quality of absorption reminiscent of childhood play, it is pure delicious. I feel like Eve in my very own Eden.
‘Pombinha’ is home to a portfolio of artistic expressions. Together they are like the vintages that fill the cellar of a life lived and loved.
